Description: The Greater Boston CSTA Chapter welcomes instructors from the University of California Berkeley to the AMSA Charter School to offer teacher preparation for one of the new pilot CS Principles courses,

Description: Alice is an innovative 3D programming environment that makes it easy to create an animation for telling a story, playing an interactive game, or a video to share on the web. Alice is a freely available teaching tool designed to be a student's first exposure to object-oriented programming. This workshop will explore the Alice 2.2 programming environment as an effective and engaging tool to introduce students from middle school through college level to programming and Computer Science. We will also explore how Alice 2.2 can be used in multi-disciplinary K-12 classrooms.

Name of workshop: Alice 3 Workshop
Description: Alice 3 is a tool uses 3D graphics and animations to introduce introductory programming students to fundamental programming concepts and transition them to Java. This workshop will explore the Alice 3 programming environment as an effective and engaging tool for students in a Computer Science 1 or Advanced Placement course in Java. Alice 3 will come out of beta this summer and be ready for use in classrooms this fall. This workshop will explore the instructor course materials that are being developed, also for use in fall classes.

Name of workshop: Alice 2.2 Workshop for Spanish-speaking populations
Description: For the first time, we are presenting a workshop for teachers interested in using Alice with a Spanish-speaking population. The workshop will be presented primarily in English, though the primary presenter speaks fluent Spanish and will be able to clarify concepts and answer questions in both Spanish and English. Workshop attendees will receive two copies of the latest version of Alice 2.2, one in English and one in Spanish. All instructional materials used in the workshop will have an English and a Spanish version.

Description: This is a three-day workshop on using Java to develop Android apps in the eclipse environment. It will cover the installation of the SDK and the AVD manager, develop a couple of apps for Android devices, load apps onto devices as well as how to introduce your apps to the Android Marketplace. This is a great opportunity to bring students in to a popular area of computer programming that they can immediately share with friends and family and can be a great recruiting tool.

Name of workshop: CSTA-CT CS Principles Workshop
Description: The new Computer Science course (CS Principles) is a breadth-first course that will be examined as an Advanced Placement Course in May 2016. The workshop will introduce participants to the seven Big Ideas of the CS Principles course and the learning objectives. It will support teachers and show them that they too can teach the CS Principles course. No previous knowledge of CS is needed. Opportunity will be created for participants to become a part of a community of learners who will be supported throughout the academic year with the implementation of the curriculum. Teachers will sign up to participate in one of two parallel CS Principles Pilot instructors courses. The two sessions will focus on using (1) BYOB and (2) AppInventor to teach CS principles respectively. The instructors will share their experience piloting the national course, their curriculum and other resources. A session on Scratch will be available for K-8 teachers.

Description: Instructors from UC Berkeley will lead teacher preparation for one of the new pilot CS Principles
courses. This course has been piloted at Berkeley as a new AP CS course targeted
for approval from the College Board in 2015. The paid six-week program includes two weeks of on-site training and four weeks
of independent work during July and August. Participating teachers will receive a stipend of $1000 and 200 hours of CEU
credits upon completion, with the possibility of an additional $1000 stipend for those who teach the course in the following
school year.
